Chaos Astartes - Elysian Phantoms of Chaos Lord Hadraxus Blackblood

Elysian Phantoms

The Elysian Phantoms are a warband of Heretic Astartes who swear zealous allegiance and devotion to Slaanesh. They comprise themselves of the dregs and scraps of various Heretic Astartes outfits who swear devotion to the Prince of Pleasure, though the bulk of their manpower comes from the splintered remnants of their legion of origin, the Emperor's Children, with many of their sinful brotherhood having fought through the Age of Darkness (Horus Heresy).

The Elysian Phantoms are incredibly hedonistic and pride themselves on savage perfection to degrees that stand out even for sons of Fulgrim. Preaching brutal individualism, the Elysian Phantoms often have no qualms betraying other followers of the Dark Gods and even each other for positions of power and privilege, with their mutual goal for total sensory excess and perfect euphoria being the single fine thread that ties them together.

History

Founding

Formed on the tail-end of the 13th Black Crusade, the violence seen on warfronts like Cadia left Fulgrim's sons scattered and splintered. It was these sons that would form the first pockets that would later become the Elysian Phantoms. Hadraxus, a skilled champion of an origin since-lost, rose above his newly-found brothers as a leader.

A natural tactician and an expert in marshal combat, Hadraxus was noted to have one major characteristic over those who challenged him for his position, he was actually enjoying himself. Hadraxus revelled in the bloodshed and gained great pleasure with each kill he secured, knowing that he was one step closer to the perfection in which he claimed he would find bliss, he would find Elysium.

Hadraxus wailed and howled with glee and laughter with each skirmish he expertly led his men through with almost-choreographed grace. But perfection brought arrogance, brought hubris. Hadraxus grew tired of the inelegant fashion in which the Despoiler through he and his brothers against Imperial walls and bastions. The slaughter of he and his men would certainly be a pothole on his road to marshal perfection and, by proxy, bliss.

Covertly gathering as many as he could muster, Hadraxus and his warband, now over 500 men strong, made a break for the Eye of Terror in a fleet of dilapidated ships. Hadraxus grimaced at the concept of such incompetence on the part of the Despoiler. Such marshal and tactical failure was below him.
