Monthy Vox: 3 (July, 2021)

Hey all! So if things go to plan, you'll actually be getting this month's Vox this month. While on my end, there hasn't been too much in the way of painting, I have had the chance to try out the 'Crusade' mission type found in the Core Rules. This month has also been bountiful in the way of new releases and announcements, with new Ork boxset dropping to show off the new Beast Snaggas, along with their codex and it's semi-questionable rules. There was another announcement I can't quite remember... oh yes!

THE BLACK TEMPLARS ARE GETTING A SUPPLEMENT!

Check out the link above for my thoughts on that, as well as what to expect and hope for with it's release.

But anyway, onto the Vox.

Modelling and Painting

Given my self-imposed 'no more kits' rule, I haven't really bought any new kits this month I've been trying to work through my pile of shame that currently consists of:
  • 4x Infiltrator
  • 1x Infiltrator Sergeant
  • 2x Eliminator
  • 1x Eliminator Sergeant
  • 1x Primaris Lieutenant in Phobos Armour
  • 1x Kit-bashed Captain in Terminator Armour
  • 1x Primaris Captain in Gravis Armour
  • 1x Kit-bashed Primaris Captain w/ Plasma Pistol + Power Fist
  • 1x Kit-bashed Primaris Techmarine
  • 1x Bladeguard Veteran
  • 1x Kit-bashed Emperor's Champion
  • 1x Kit-bashed Primaris Captain w/ Master-crafted Auto Bolt Rifle + Master-crafted Power Sword
  • 1x Kit-bashed Primaris Lieutenant w/ Bolt Pistol + Master-crafted Power Sword
  • 1x Magnetized Invictor Tactical Warsuit
  • 1x Magnetized Impulsor
  • 1x Magnetized Venerable Dreadnought (Half-painted)
  • 1x Primaris Chaplain on Bike (Half-painted)
  • 1x Kit-bashed Primaris Lieutenant w/ Bolt Pistol + Master-crafted Stalker Bolt Rifle
  • 1x Typhus (Half-painted)
Not counting the million heads, alternate weapon options, transfers, and bases that still need doing; this tallies up to around 25 models.

While this may be 'rookie numbers' to some of you, I'm a broke student and have told myself not to buy any more official kits for a while with one exception; new Templar-specific releases like codices, characters, and limited-time boxsets, etc. Bitz bundles and resales on eBay are still fair game as they're usually leagues cheaper.

That isn't to say I didn't get any kit-bashing and conversions done from what I already had:

Primaris Captain in Gravis Armour (Modelling)

While technically I had this model ready to paint back when I showed you guys how to strip your models, I felt like he was missing something. After sufficiently adding banners, purity seals, and reliquaries, he's now worthy of captain-hood. I'll likely be making him one of the more heavily-armoured loadouts of my homebrew Marshal, Reinhardt

Captain in Terminator Armour (Modelling)

Gravis Armour isn't the only new set of threads my Reinhardt will be acquiring. Yes, I know it's unorthodox for a Primaris Astartes to be wearing Terminator Armour, but there is a lore reason for it: Fuck you. In all honesty, I've been playing with the idea of Primaris-scale terminators for some time now, with very few options outside of a massive workload or huge price tag.

This was my first attempt using some re-casted heresy-era Space Wolf terminators I got thrown in for free when I bought an Invictor Tactical Warsuit (official kit) from a kind soul at my club, along with Typhus, earlier this year. I also used various bits I had accumulated from easy-to-build Intercessors and misc eBay bits bundles.

It looks a little rough right now, seeing as I had to use a decent amount of super glue on the resin components, but I'm sure it'll look fine once it's got some primer on it.

Primaris Lieutenant w/ Bolt Pistol + Master-Crafted Stalker Bolt Rifle (Modelling)

Honestly, only made this model to fill the niche. Each Captain/Lieutenant I mash together from spare bits is one less £25 box I need to buy. Not quite sure what I plan on doing with this chap. Might even give him a Chainsword and make him an Intercessor Sergeant or something.

Infiltrator Squad w/ Helix Gauntlet (Painting)

This squad was a real test in patience for me, being the first whol squad I've batch painted in few weeks, as well as being meticulously edge-highlighted as cleanly as I could, which to me was an achievement. I'm confident to call this unit done for now, despite it not being decal'd or based. I've even included them in my Crusade Force.

Crusade... or not

Now, I know I said on my Instagram I would be covering my experiences playing the 'Crusade' narrative mission types within the Core Rules, but as I was writing it, I realised it would be better suited to it's own post. So you'll have to wait around for that one a bit but stay tuned.

Closing Statement

These posts have really been getting alright traction, at least according to my own standards and Blogger's data and demographics, so thanks for that! I've been trying to use these Monthly Vox posts as a sure-fire way to get out some content each month but I have had ideas floating around for more specific topics so keep an eye out for them. In the meantime, I post frequently on my Instagram account @fistfulofbeans, covering smaller things that might not be worth their own article, as well as continuously shilling this blog, so go check that out if you get a minute.

I hope you've all been enjoying your summer so far!
